John Peterson
Volunteer Assistant

John Peterson enters his second season as a member of the Blue Raider staff, serving as a volunteer assistant. His duties at Middle Tennessee include working with catchers, hitting instruction, and on-campus recruiting.

Peterson came to Middle Tennessee after serving as the hitting and catching coach at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Ala. His duties at Jefferson State included assisting in recruiting, organization of practice and instructing players in hitting mechanics. While at Jefferson State, Peterson worked with a 3rd team NJCAA DI All-America catcher.

Prior to his stint at Jefferson State, Peterson served as a student coach at the University of Memphis at the conclusion of his playing career. As a student coach at Memphis he worked with the pitching coach assisting the pitching staff, implemented defensive drills with small groups and assisted with on-campus recruiting.

Peterson played at Memphis as a catcher and first baseman for two years. Before playing at Memphis, he began his career at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tenn., where he was a two-year letterwinner as a catcher.

Peterson married the former Myranda Howland in the summer of 2008.
