Mike Scutero

Director of Basketball Operations

Mike Scutero is entering his fourth season as director of basketball operations for the Blue Raiders.

Scutero joined the Blue Raider staff after five years as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Odessa College.

Scutero helped lead Odessa to three straight 20-win seasons, including a conference championship in 2007-2008.

Scutero spent many years in the high school and AAU ranks in the state of Florida before jumping to the collegiate level.

Prior to his stint at Odessa, Scutero joined the coaching staff at Winter Springs High School in Winter Springs, Fla., for the 2003-2004 school year. He was an integral part of the program which attained its first 20-win season.

Scutero began his coaching career as an assistant at Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, Fla., where he helped lead them to five state playoff appearances in seven seasons. In 1999, 2002, and 2003, Scutero was a member of the Lake Howell staff that was honored as the State Coaching Staff of the Year. In 2003, the team set a school record with 29 wins while reaching the State Final Four for the first time in school history. Scutero also assisted with the highly touted Nike Team Florida which was comprised of the top-high school players in the state of Florida.

In just a few short years of coaching in the high school, AAU, and JUCO ranks, Scutero has had the opportunity to recruit and coach over 40 players that moved on to NCAA D1 schools including: 2007 McDonalds All-American Nick Calathes (Florida), Joey Rodriguez (VCU), 2011 SEC Player of the Year Chandler Parsons (Florida), John Roberson (Texas Tech), Quintin Thornton (LSU), Jeremiah Rivers (Indiana), Keaton Grant (Purdue), Taurean Green (Florida), Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (UCLA), Walter Hodge (Florida), Raymond Sykes (Clemson), Pat Calathes (St. Joe’s), Shawn Witherspoon (Murray State) and Ian Young (Auburn).

In addition, Scutero has coached more than 10 players who have moved on to professional careers: Chandler Parsons (Florida) was drafted by the Houston Rockets in the 2010 NBA Draft and was a member of the 2011-12 NBA All-Rookie Team; Nick Calathes (Florida) was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2009 NBA Draft; Luc Richard Mbah a Boute (UCLA) was drafted in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks; Taurean Green (Florida) was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in the 2007 NBA Draft. Others coached by Scutero are playing professionally overseas. Brandon Marshall (UCF), star receiver for the Chicago Bears, was also one of Scutero’s hoops stars in high school.

Scutero was born on January 29, 1978, in Long Island, N.Y. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in liberal studies, and a minor in athletic coaching.

Scutero and his wife, Kimberly, have two sons, Noah and Kaleb.
