Middle Tennessee head softball coach Jeff Breeden announced the addition of pitching coach Tony Foti to his staff in Aug. 2013.
“We are lucky to get a coach with his background and experiences,” said Breeden. “He will do great things for our program and pitchers.” Foti brings a lengthy softball background to MT. Wherever he goes, success seems to follow. He has established himself internationally with experience in the Italian Professional Softball League (IPSL) and Canadian Junior Women’s National Teams.
In 2007 and 2008, Foti helped lead Forli in the IPSL to Italian Championships and European Cup Championships.
For eight years, he served on the Canadians Junior Women’s National Softball Team which finished second in the 1995 Pan American Games and placed 5th in the 1996 Olympic Games. Foti also served as the Head Coach for the Canadian Junior Women’s National Team from 2008 to 2012.
Also, Foti has served as an assistant coach at UC Santa Barbara for seven years, and a volunteer assistant at UNLV.
In the spring of 2001, Foti accepted the opportunity to be the head softball coach at Mercer University. Two years later, he was selected Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year after leading Mercer to a 35-23 record, advancing the Bears to their first Atlantic Sun tournament berth since 1997.
Foti played for the 1981 Canadian Junior Men’s National Team before starting his coaching career as an assistant at Valley City College in 1985. He earned his first head coaching position at Red River College in 1986.
Foti holds a BA in Education Administration from the International College in Los Angeles. He has a daughter Devyn who graduated in May from Wesleyan College and a son Dayne who is attending Georgia College and State University.
