Men's Tennis Drops 4-2 Decision at Vandy

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The 42nd-ranked Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders won the doubles point but could not hold on in dropping a 4-2 decision to 54th-ranked Vanderbilt Wednesday afternoon at the Currey Tennis Center in Nashville, Tenn.

The Blue Raiders won the doubles point to start the match, with 46th-ranked Daniel Klemetz and Kirk Jackson defeating Vanderbilt's Chad Harris and Scott Brown, 8-6, at No. 2, and Trevor Short and Michael Staniak winning at No. 3, 8-3, over Zach Dailey and Josh Tarkoff. The 26th-ranked duo of Oliver Foreman and Robert Gustafsson were defeated 8-1 at No. 1 doubles by VU's 48th-rated Bobby Reynolds and Lewis Smith.

Vanderbilt then took four of the singles matches to win the match, picking up victories at Nos. 1,3, 4 and 5.

Jens Frederiksen defeated Jackson at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1, and Scott Brown gave the home squad a 2-1 advantage with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over MT's Rishan Kuruppu.

Short evened the match for the Blue Raiders with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Josh Tarkoff, but the Commodores won the next two matches. Zach Dailey defeated Staniak at No. 3, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, before 26th-ranked Bobby Reynolds won a slugfest over 14th-rated Daniel Klemetz, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 1.

Wednesday's match brought an end to the regular season for the Blue Raiders. The squad will now prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Mobile, Ala., scheduled for April 19-21.
