No. 19 Louisiana-Lafayette Downs Lady Raiders

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - No. 19 Louisiana-Lafayette (33-10, 7-1) swept Middle Tennessee softball (18-23, 1-7 SBC) 11-6, 9-1 in the final two games of the Sun Belt Conference series Sunday at Lady Raider Field.

In first game action, Middle Tennessee fell to ULL 11-6. The Lady Raiders scored first in the game when pitcher Jennifer Martinez hit a two RBI double sending home Lisa Sherman and Dani DeCamino. The Lady Cajuns answered in the second inning with a solo homerun over the left centerfield fence by Joy Webre.

The Lady Cajuns tacked on five runs in the top of the third inning, with Middle Tennessee adding one run on a Louisiana-Lafayette error, which sent home pinch runner Jen Polsteen. In the top of the sixth, ULL added two more runs.

Middle Tennessee added two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. With bases loaded and one out, ULL pitcher Melissa Coronado walked Laura Brockman to send home catcher Lindsay Azevedo. After Steffi Sliva reached on a fielder's choice, and Erica Buul was thrown out at home, Leah Grothause scored on a Lady Cajun error and Brockman was tagged out at third.

A three run shot by Summer Lapeyrouse in the third began the seventh inning. Pinch hitter Kelly Cormier's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh added one run for the Lady Raiders. Martinez picked up the loss and falls to 12-9 on the year.

ULL had four homeruns in the Lady Cajuns 9-1 win over Middle Tennessee in the second game. Junior Erica Buhl hit the fourth homerun of her career, which puts her in sole possession of fifth place in the Lady Raider record books. Amanda Kendall picked up the loss and falls to 1-5 on the year.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Saturday April 20 when the Lady Raiders travel to Bowling Green, KY to take on Western Kentucky. The first pitch in Sun Belt action begins at 1 p.m.
