USA Sweeps MT with 14-6 Win
April 21, 2002 · MT Media RelationsThe loss drops Middle Tennessee's overall record to 21-19, 3-9 in the Sun Belt while the Jags stand at 28-11, 9-1 in the league.
The Blue Raiders jumped out to an early lead behind a Josh Archer 3-run homer in the top of the first inning.
The Jags returned fire in the bottom of the first with RBI singles from Jansen Rayborn and Ryan Mulhern. USA then knotted the score at three with a solo homer from Kevin Sytko.
The Blue Raiders returned to the lead in the third with an Archer RBI single, but the lead evaporated in the bottom of the inning. A hit batsman and a double chased MT started Travis Horschel from the game and led to two USA runs and a 5-4 Jag advantage.
Middle Tennessee once again grabbed the lead behind a Marshall Nisbett 2-run blast in the top of the fifth, but the 6-5 lead would prove to be the end of the offensive production for the Blue Raiders.
The Jags ignited in the bottom of the fifth for four runs with the big blow coming from a 3-run roundtripper off the bat of Brett Parker. The Jags got three more in the bottom of the sixth behind homers from Mulhern and Jason Gross.
When the dust finally settled, the Jags ran away with the game 14-6.
Danny Borne took the loss in relief to fall to 1-3 while Caleb Crosby was the winner to improve to 2-0.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Tuesday night at Vanderbilt beginning at 7 PM.
