Middle Tennessee Falls to Auburn 10-4 in Eight Innings
April 22, 2002 · MT Media RelationsWith the game tied 4-4 to start the eighth inning, Auburn scored six runs to put the game out of reach. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam from Auburn's Kasey Angulo, which was the first of her career.
Auburn struck first in the third inning with three runs. Middle Tennessee quickly answered with three runs of their own. An RBI single by Jennifer Martinez sent home Kristina Hieb, who got on board with a walk, and the Lady Raiders got two more runs from a two RBI homerun by Laura Brockman. It was Brockman's fourth homerun of the season and 21st of her career.
Middle Tennessee broke the 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring on an RBI single by first baseman Ashlie Way which sent home Erica Buhl. Auburn tied the game 4-4 on an RBI single by Rachel Sutton.
Senior hurler Jennifer Martinez picks up the loss and falls to 13-11. She allowed 13 hits and struck out nine.
Thursday Middle Tennessee will host a doubleheader with intrastate rival UT-Chattanooga. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Lady Raider Field.
