NICEVILLE, Fla. - Seniors Beddies and J.R. Wade had the best scores of the day with 76 and 77, as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders shot an opening round 313 at the Sun Belt Championships here at The Golf Club at Bluewater Bay.

Beddies had a consistent 39-37 for his round of 76, with three birdies, five bogeys and one double bogey. Wade had a wild round, making five bogeys on the front nine and then three birdies, three pars and three bogeys.

Sophomore Charlie Gibson shot an opening round 80 making just one birdie in his round. Junior Patrick Williams drained a 25-foot putt for birdie on the first hole and made birdie on the second hole, as well, but then made triple bogey on the third, hitting two balls in the water en route to an 80.

Sophomore Willie Daniel was just three-over on the front nine but finished with an 82, shooting 43 on the back nine.

"We started out well on the first few holes, but then struggled from there," Moore said. "The course really beat us up today, and we struggled as a team.

"Tomorrow we really have to battle and be more consistent from tee-to-green and hole-to-hole. We did not do that today and it showed in our score.

"We will have the early tee time in the morning, which should be an advantage. The greens will be fresh and there should be little wind for the players to contend with."

The Blue Raiders will tee off in the morning at 8 a.m. with New Orleans. Middle Tennessee trails tournament leader New Mexico State by 18 strokes.
