Women's Basketball Adds Two All-State Signees

April 11, 2001 · MT Media Relations
MURFREESBORO, Tenn.--Head coach Stephany Smith announced on Wednesday two additional signees to the 2001 signing class. Renee Hall from Charlotte, NC, and Jessica Schlueter of Bellevue Neb., signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Middle Tennessee beginning next season.

Hall, a 6-2 post averaged a double-double as a senior at Charlotte Latin High School scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds per game. She also averaged two blocks per game and shot 55 percent from the floor.

An all-State selection in North Carolina, she led CLHS to a 48-14 record during her junior and senior years.

Needing to find size to compete in the Sun Belt Conference, the Lady Raiders found it in the 6-3 Schlueter, who was named first-team all-State in Nebraska.

She was named to the Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star team and earned first team All-Metro honors from the Omaha World-Herald after scoring 14 points with nine rebounds per game in leading Bellevue East High School into the quarterfinals of the Nebraska State Tournament. She shot 62 percent from the floor during her senior season at Bellevue.

"We have always known that we have a solid basketball program, a great University, and we have built a solid foundation over the last four years," said Smith. "But the Sun Belt Conference has given us a base to recruit on a national level and has really opened the door for us to take it to the next level."

Schlueter and Hall will join a class that was already ranked 51st in the nation out of over 300 Divison I programs by the All-Star Girls Report recruiting annals.

"With the success we had last year and this year's signing class, we have dramatically raised the bar," Smith went on to say. "We signed a tremendous backcourt in the early signing period and an excellent forward, and to get a couple of six-foot-three big bodies only amplifies the impact that this class will have."
