UL Shuts Out MT 5-0

April 26, 2002 · MT Media Relations
Middle Tennessee returned to home turf against Louisiana-Lafayette, but the confines turned out to be unfriendly on this cool Friday night as the Blue Raiders dropped their sixth straight game 5-0.

The Cajuns got on the board in the top of the second inning when Brad Saloom homered to lead off the inning. Another solo homer from Corey Coles in the second increased the UL lead to 2-0.

The final offensive blow came in the top of the fourth. A two-out error put two runners on base for Chase Lambin, who deposited an Adam Larson pitch over the centerfield wall to give the Cajuns a 5-0 lead.

That was all the Cajuns would need with ace Justin Gabriel on the hill. The left-hander went the distance while allowing only five hits and striking out eight.

However, Larson matched up as well as possible in his complete game effort. He allowed only seven hits while striking out nine in the game. Only two of the five Cajun runs were earned.

The Blue Raiders stranded 10 runners in the game and only three players in the lineup were able to collect hits in the game. Troy Harp paced the club with a 3-for-4 effort. Nate Jaggers and Justin Sims also added hits.

The Blue Raiders and Ragin' Cajuns will renew the series on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. Right-hander Travis Horschel is expected to get the starting nod for Middle Tennessee while Andy Gros will start for UL.
