Volleyball Goes 1-1 at Home Tournament Opener

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee volleyball ended the first day of action at the Middle Tennessee Invitational 1-1 after dropping a five game heartbreaker to Purdue, 2-3, in the nightcap of the tournament on Friday at Alumni Gym.

The Lady Raiders dominated early winning the first two games 30-28, 30-24, but a tough Purdue team fought back to win the final three games. Katie Thiesen who had 14 kills in the match led Middle Tennessee, and Erin Hillstrom and Karisse Baker each had 12.

Senior setter Kelly Quinn, from Garland, TX, moved into third place for assists in a career with 2081 with 25 assists against Purdue. She replaces Jaemi Clayton who had 2075.

In earlier action, Middle Tennessee defeated Western Carolina 3-1, after dropping the first game 30-23.

Sophomore KeKe Deckard recorded a double-double with 21 kills and 19 digs. Hillstrom registered 20 digs and Thiesen ranked second in kills with 11 Quinn had 42 assists.

Evansville defeated Chicago State 3-0

Game Two Middle Tennessee defeated Western Carolina 3-1

Game Three Purdue defeated Evansville 3-0

Game Four Western Carolina defeated Chicago State 3-1

Game Five Purdue defeated Middle Tennessee 3-2
