Three Blue Raiders Compete in Mobile Invitational

Staniak defeated South Alabama's Aurelio DiZazzo in the first round, 6-4, 6-3, before falling to Paul Ciorascu of Ole Miss, 2-6, 6-7. In other singles action, Short dropped a 6-7 (5), 2-6 decision to Rameez Junaid of Auburn, and Jackson fell 2-6, 2-6 to Matias Marin of Baylor.
Staniak and Short played doubles in the tournament, defeating Marin and Karim Alaily of Baylor, 3-6, 6-4, 10-3, in the first round. The duo fell 6-7 (5), 3-6, to Chris Gostek and Stephen Mitchell of Alabama in the second round.
Jackson played with Geoff Hiscox, a player from Bowling Green, Ky. The pairing advanced to the second round because of a withdrawal but Hiscox had to retire in the second set against Junaid and Nick Lane of Auburn.
The 16th Annual Pro-Am is next up for the tennis squad, set for September 13-14 at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center. For more information, please contact Dale Short at 615/898-2957.
