Blue Raiders Battle Winds, Fast Greens in First Two Rounds

MONROE, La. - Winds reaching 20 miles per hour and fast greens resulted in some high scores on the opening day of the Fred Marx Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Louisiana at Monroe played at the Bayou DeSiard Country Club. Middle Tennessee is in sixth place out of 12 teams with rounds of 302 and 306 for a total of 608.

The par 72 Bayou DeSiard Country Club measured 6,814 yards and the opening round score averaged 78.06 with the second rounds scores improving to a 77.65 average.

McNeese State leads the tournament after the first two rounds with a score of 291, followed by Southwest Texas at 598. The opening round saw just five players shoot below par with Southwest Texas' Kevin Messer shooting a three-under 69.

Carter Henderson paced the Blue Raiders with a two-round score of 148 to stand in a tie for seventh. Henderson opened with a 76, then responded with an even par 72 in the afternoon. Charlie Gibson is tied for 13th with a 150 (73-77), while Patrick Williams is tied for 25th with a 153.

Rounding out MT's scoring was Blake Bivens in a tie for 53rd after a total of 160, along with teammate Kenny Green, who also fired a 160.

The Blue Raiders will play the final round on Tuesday morning.
