Brazelton Racks Up National, League Awards

Dewon Brazelton made it a clean sweep in college baseball this week by being named Louisville Slugger National Pitcher of the Week, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pitcher of the Week, and Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week.

The awards mark the third time that he has been named National Pitcher of the Week and Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week this season.

Brazelton took home the hardware after a dominant performance against Western Kentucky in which he struck out a career high 16 batters while allowing only three hits. Brazelton became the first player in Middle Tennessee history to reach the 300-strikeout plateau with the outing and also became the school's single season strikeout leader with 133.

Brazelton is now the first pitcher in the Sun Belt this season to claim the league's pitcher of the week honors three times.

Throughout this season, he has continued to rewrite the Middle Tennessee record books. He owns the career and single-season strikeout marks and is moving up the lists for career and single season wins, complete games, and innings pitched.

In other Brazelton news, the Tullahoma, Tenn., native is scheduled to appear in the May 9 edition of Sports Illustrated.

He has also been named one of 20 finalists for the Dick Howser Award, presented annually by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association to the nation's best college baseball player. He has been mentioned as a candidate for several other Player of the Year awards this season including the Rotary Smith Award, Baseball America Player of the Year, and several All-America teams.
