Softball 3-0 at Host Tourney

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee softball went 3-0 in opening day action of the MT Fall Softball Classic on Saturday.

In game one Middle Tennessee defeated Lipscomb 10-3. Lipscomb jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. MT answered in the second with five runs, on six hits. It was capped off with a 2 run HR by junior Cortney Mitchell.

For the game Mitchell went 4-4 with 3 doubles, a homerun, 2 runs, and 4 RBI. Senior Stayc Preator picked up the win pitching five innings allowing three run, two earned, four hits and had nine strikeouts.

In game two the Lady Raiders won 8-3 over Rend Lake. Freshman Tiffany Childress picked up the win on the mound. Mitchell continued her hot streak going 1-2 with a homerun.

Middle Tennessee defeated Cumberland University 7-0 in the third game of the day. Muriel Ledbetter, Val Swanson, Jen Dorais combined to pitch a 3 hit shutout. Swanson recieved the win pitching 2 innings, allowing one hit, and two strikeouts., while Ledbetter had five strikeouts in three innings pitched and Dorais had three strikeouts in two innings pitched.

On Sunday the Lady Raiders play Motlow at 9 a.m., Chattanooga State at 1 p.m. and Tennessee State at 3 p.m.
