LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Middle Tennessee doubles team Manon Kruse and Stacy Varnell advanced to the second round of qualifying, with an 8-4 win over Mississippi's Mira Radu and Virginia Tomatis at the All-America at the Riviera Country Club Tuesday.

The match was tight until the final games when Kruse and Varnell poured it on and finished off the team from Ole Miss. After only being up 5-4, the Lady Raider duo won the final three games to take the match.

In qualifying singles action, Kruse won the opening round by defeating Harvard's Alexis Matire 6-2, 6-3. Boise State's Renata Stoop defeated Kruse in the second round 4-6, 1-6.

Kruse and Varnell will begin second round action at All-America at noon PT on Wednesday.

The 37th-ranked doubles tandem of Daniel Klemetz and Kirk Jackson defeated Indiana State's Henry Choi and Daliber Mihajlovic, 8-6, on Tuesday at the 2002 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Champions Club.

The Middle Tennessee pairing plays at 1 p.m. ET Wednesday against Southern Cal's Johan Berg and Daniel Langre. A win on Wednesday would put the two into the main draw doubles that begins Friday. Klemetz is seeded eighth in the main draw singles that also begins Friday.
