Sybert Finishes Second at UTC XC Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's Levi Sybert took second place Saturday at the UTC XC Invitational at Moccasin Bend in Chattanooga, Tenn., pacing the Blue Raider and Lady Raider cross country teams in their final meet before the conference championships.

Sybert helped the men's team finish third, running the 5K course in 15:46. Anthony McGary also finished in the Top 10, placing ninth with a time of 16:29. Murfreesboro's Josh Carroll came in 13th in 16:51, followed by Edwin Koech in 14th in 16:52. Sean Rabe finished 30th (19:15) and Carlos Gonzalez (31st, 20:11) rounded out the Blue Raider squad.

The Lady Raiders were led by Chelsea Taylor, who finished the two mile course in 14:17 to place 36th. Laura Smith was 45th for Middle Tennessee in a time of 16:27, followed by Jerkita McClorin (46th, 16:44), Kerry Barrow (48th, 17:54) and Nicolette Jarrett (49th, 18:15).

"Levi ran a terrific race to finish second, and Josh Carroll also ran very well," Middle Tennessee head coach Dean Hayes said. "We did a good job on both sides in using this race to get ready for conference."

Both squads next meet is November 4 in Denton, Texas, at the Sun Belt Championships.
