Blue Raiders Win 2-1
October 20, 2002 · MT Media RelationsMiguez scored on an assist from Christina Mascaro in the 17th minute and Carter's goal came on a rebound just six minutes later to stake the Blue Raiders to an early 2-0 advantage. The margin would have been much more if not for APSU keeper Sarah Broadbent, who made seven saves in the opening 45 minutes and 17 in the match.
The Lady Govs got just one scoring opportunity in the first half and Stephanie Schwetz made it count, making a long run before sending a shot low and left and into the back of the net in the 36th minute.
The Blue Raiders continued to barrage Broadbent with shots in the second half, taking 23 after the break, but were unable to score. Schwetz made one run midway through the second half looking to tie the match, but Middle Tennessee keeper Emily Shrum came off her line to make her only save of the match.
The Blue Raiders outshot APSU, 44-2, in the match, and had 14 corners to none for the Lady Govs.
Middle Tennessee plays its final nonconference match of the season on Tuesday at 2 p.m. CT in Atlanta, Ga., against Georgia State. The Blue Raiders return home next weekend for their final two regular season matches, hosting South Alabama on Friday before taking on Louisiana-Lafayette Sunday.
