Waller, Scales Lead Track at MT Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee freshman Sean Waller headlined for the Blue Raiders in the Middle Tennessee Invitational at Murphy Center, winning one event and running the anchor leg on the winning mile relay team. Junior Mardy Scales also set an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the one-day event.

 

Waller won the 400m for the Blue Raiders in 47.99 and finished second in the long jump behind former Blue Raider All-American Roland McGhee. Waller jumped 24-1 to take second.

 

The Hunters Lane High School product then ran 46.8 as the anchor leg to erase a deficit and win the mile relay for the Blue Raiders over Tennessee State.

 

Scales, a junior from Franklin, Tenn., and 2002 Indoor All-American, set an NCAA provisional time of 6.22 to win the 55m event. Omar Ali took second in the 55m in 6.50.

 

Sophomore Wesley Dupar-Scott finished second in the 200m in 21.68, while Ali was fourth. Freshman Tim Hicks, who ran the third leg on the mile relay squad, placed third in the 400m in 48.56.

 

Murfreesboro native Josh Carroll made a strong push on the final lap to take second in the 3000m, while senior Levi Sybert won the mile in 4:23.00, followed closely by Blue Raider Anthony McGary in second. 2001 Indoor All-American Jasper Demps won the 55m hurdles in 7.55. Newcomers Pierre Ingram and Randy McKeever finished second and third in the high jump, clearing 6-2 and 6-0, respectively.

 

For the Lady Raiders, Jerkita McClorin returned after missing last season and won the 55m hurdles in 8.23, while freshman Candice Robertson took third in the event. Nicolette Jarrett and Kishara George finished second and third, respectively, in the 400m.

 

LaToya Brown tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 5-2, and Letitia Eady was third in the long jump with a mark of 18-6.

 

The Blue Raiders and Lady Raiders return to action January 18 at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky., and will host the Blue Raider Classic on January 25 at Murphy Center.
