Men's Golf Team Set for Spring Opener in TampaFebruary 20, 2003 · MT Media Relations
TAMPA, Fla. - The Middle Tennessee men's golf team will get the spring season underway on Friday at the Dick Wittcoff/South Florida Invitational. The 54-hole event, which will see 15 teams play 18 holes each on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, will take place on the University of South Florida Golf Course.
The 2003 field includes: Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Columbus State, DePaul, Florida Atlantic, Florida Southern, Francis Marion, Jacksonville State, Marquette, Memphis, South Alabama, South Florida, Tennessee-Chattanooga, and UCF.
Like a lot of team's this winter, the Blue Raiders have not enjoyed the practice time they usually get due to the weather. For that reason, Head Coach Johnny Moore is a little in the dark about how his team will respond.
"The weather has really been a problem for us this year," Moore said. "The most we have been able to play in one day is 12 holes and our actual on-course time has been limited. I really don't know what to expect this weekend because this is the least amount of practice time we have had before starting a season."
The Blue Raiders, who finished in the top half of all five of their fall tournaments, will be led by senior Patrick Williams. The Chattanooga, TN, native hopes to continue his hot streak from the fall when he finished in the top five overall in the team's last two tournaments.
The tournament will get underway with a shotgun start at 7:30 AM EST on Friday.
