Stayc Preator Streaks to 59 in Lady Raider Win

May 3, 2003 · MT Media Relations

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Senior Stayc Preator continued to impress as she threw her eighth shutout of the season, and improved her streak to 59.1 consecutive innings without allowing a run, in Middle Tennessee's (32-17, 8-5 Sun Belt) 2-0 win over Florida International (33-23, 9-3 Sun Belt) Saturday. The Lady Raiders dropped game two 7-1.

Preator also improved to 22-6 on the season and tied her career high in strikeouts recording 172 with the five Panthers she fanned. She also scattered nine hits in the complete game.

Florida International's biggest threat in game one also put Preator's streak in jeopardy as the right-hander found herself in quite a jam. With the bases loaded and one out, she proved why her nickname is Ice as she struck out Amber Gill for the second out and then forced pinch hitter Jennifer Powell to line out to Dani DeCamino. It was the Panthers only scoring threat of the game.

Erica Buhl got the Lady Raiders on the board in the bottom of the fifth when she hit an RBI double that plated Katie Tompkins. The Lady Raiders added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when an FIU miscue scored Cortney Mitchell, who got on base with her 25th double of the season.

After going 3-for-3 in the first game, Mitchell continued to pound the ball with a solo homerun off the scoreboard to start the second game.

Florida International scored their first runs of the day with three in the top of the second and added one more on a Lady Raider miscue in the top of the third. Cindy Turek one more on a sacrifice fly in the fifth and then Marleah Stapf hit a homerun off relief pitcher Jennifer Dorais and then the Panthers added one more in the seventh.

Middle Tennessee closes out their series and the regular season with Sun Belt foe Florida International Sunday in doubleheader action, which begins at 1 p.m. at the Lady Raider Softball Field. It is also senior day and Buhl, Preator, Kip Phillips and Megan Cherinka will be honored prior to the first game.
