DEFENSIVE DRILLS: Middle Tennessee volleyball spent the first part of practice on Monday working on its defense. The coaching staff served balls to the players as they worked on digging them and getting the ball to the setter.

BRUSH RELEASED TO PRACTICE: Redshirt freshman Katie Brush has been released to practice after sitting out all of last season.

SCRIMMAGES: Middle Tennessee will spend a portion of each practice this week scrimmaging in preparation for the season.

PRESEASON POLL AUG. 21: The Sun Belt Conference will release its preseason volleyball poll on Monday, August 21.

11 DAYS TO SEASON: Middle Tennessee has a short preseason, as the Blue Raiders begin the season in just 11 days. The club begins the year on August 25 when the Blue Raiders face Radford in a tournament at Appalachian State.

THE SMACK AWARD WINNER: For the second time during the preseason Savannah Pegg has earned the Smack Award. Head Coach Matt Peck said the freshman has been aggressive and hitting the ball well the last few days of practice.

JUNIOR OUTSIDE HITTER VICTORIA MONASTEROLO: "I think we are going to have a good season. After going through the first few practices I think it shows that we can be the team everyone, I think, believes can win the Sun Belt. I think if we keep the same pace and work as hard as we have been, we can have good results. Practice has been hard, and there are still some details the freshmen are trying to learn, but I think they are learning quickly and will be ready to contribute when we play our first match."
