MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Middle Tennessee senior Chad Cooper was taken with the first pick in the 11th round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays Tuesday in the Major League Baseball Amatuer Draft.
Cooper, who was the leading hitter for the Blue Raiders in 2003 and tied for the team-lead in hits, will join former Blue Raider hurler Dewon Brazelton in the D-Ray organization.
Cooper was a First-Team All-Sun Belt selection this season after batting .374 with 14 doubles, seven home runs, 35 RBIs and 52 runs scored. The Picture Rocks, Pa., native also stole 19 bases and struck out only 22 times in almost 200 at-bats.
