Softball Holds First Scrimmage

White Team Defeats Blue 5-2

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee softball played its first scrimmage of the fall on Thursday at Blue Raider Field.

Head Coach Leigh Podlesny split the squad into two groups, with the Blue team consisting of returning players and the White team containing the new players. The White team came out on top defeating the returning players 5-2.

Freshmen Caitlin McLure and Corrie Abel led the White team, each going 3-for-5 in the scrimmage. McLure scored one run and picked up three singles. Abel had a double, two singles, one RBI, one stolen base and scored a run.

The White jumped out early, scoring two runs in the top of the first. The newcomers tacked on two runs in the third and capped off the game with one run in the top of the seventh.

Senior Shelby Stiner was the only returning player to get multiple hits in the game. She went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. Junior Kristine Reed's RBI double gave the Blue its first run of the game, scoring fellow junior Katie Mielke in the second inning. The Blue's other run came in sixth inning when Justine Cerda hit an RBI double to score Samantha Floyd.

Middle Tennessee will hosts its first game of the fall preseason on Thursday at 5 p.m. September 21 at Blue Raider Field. The game will be broadcast live on GoBlueRaiders.com.
