LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team had two players turn in Top 10 finishes and the Blue Raiders finished fifth overall at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup in Louisville, Ky. Tuesday.
Junior Taryn Durham finished fourth overall. Her three-round total 221 was four strokes off the lead of medalist Kelly Calkin (Louisville). Senior teammate Maggie McGill also got off to a solid start to her final year with the Blue Raiders as the veteran linkster turned in a three-round total 225 to tie for ninth overall.
Durham and McGill each posted a 2-over-74 in final-round action, which tied for the third lowest score of the third round.
"We can take a lot from this first tournament of the fall," Middle Tennessee women's golf coach Rachel Short said. "We were consistent as a team. We left a few shots on the course which shows we are capable of doing even more. We can build on this as we go."
Middle Tennessee's steady play in its first fall event was highlighted by consistent play from start to finish as the squad shot 303 in the first round, 304 in the second, and 306 in the final round. The Blue Raiders, who finished with a 913, came in behind host Louisville (892), Augusta State (897), Maryland (908), and UNC Wilmington (909).
Blue Raider freshman Clara Leathers debuted in fine fashion with a 233 to finish tied for 27th overall. Mallory Bishop (236) tied for 36th, while Leigh Wilkins came in with a 240.
