September 21, 2006 · MT Media Relations
SCOUT DAY SET FOR THURSDAY: Middle Tennessee's annual Scout Day will take place at Reese Smith Field Thursday beginning at approximately 2:30 p.m. with players going through a full major league workout - running the 60-yard dash, taking infield and outfield as well as batting practice. A seven-inning scrimmage will follow and should begin at around 3:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. The Blue Raiders will not practice again this week or weekend because of a tournament at Reese Smith Field, Friday-Sunday.

MINOR LEAGUERS WRAP UP SEASON: Four former Blue Raiders finished their minor league seasons in the past week, all four in the postseason. Jeremy Owens (1996-98) and the Montgomery (AL) Biscuits defeated Jacksonville three-games-to-none and then Huntsville, three-games-to-one, to win the Southern League Championship in just their third year of existence. Huntsville beat former Blue Raider and Chattanooga Lookouts skipper, Jayhawk Owens (1988-90), in the first round of the SL playoffs before the Biscuits won the final three games of the championship series for the league crown. In the independent leagues, Josh Renick (2000-01) and the St. Paul (MN) Saints lost, three-games-to-two, to the Ft. Worth Cats in the championship series in the American Association. The Saints defeated the league's top team, the Lincoln Saltdogs, in the first round before playing the maximum five games in the championship series. Eric McNamee (2004-05) and the Gary (IN) Southshore Railcats lost in the Northern League championship series, three-games-to-one, to the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks. Gary won the final three games of their semifinal series against Schaumburg to advance to the championship series and won the opening game against Fargo-Moorhead before dropping the final three contests. Gary was the 2005 Northern League champions in a rematch of the league championship series from a year ago.

TWO PLAYERS IN ARIZONA: Former Blue Raiders Michael McKenry and Brett Carroll will both spend time in Arizona this fall but at different times. McKenry is currently at the Colorado Rockies Instructional Camp in Tucson, Ariz. Carroll will be participating in the Arizona Fall League for the Peoria Javelinas beginning October 10.
