Blue Raiders Record 3-2 Comeback Win

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee volleyball (11-4, 2-0 SBC) had to overcome a 2-1 deficit to Troy (6-12, 0-2 SBC), winning the last two games, to claim a 3-2 (30-25, 19-30, 24-30, 30-20, 15-10) victory Saturday in Alumni Memorial Gym.
It was just the second time this season the Blue Raiders have gone to five games in a match. Middle Tennessee is now 2-0 when forcing five games with the other victory over St. Mary's of California.
The Blue Raiders looked to be in control of the match after taking game one, but a tenacious Troy team put the club on the ropes. Tied at 11 in game two, Middle Tennessee watched the Trojans go on a 19 to eight run to tie the match at one game heading into the locker room.
Troy took a 2-1 lead with a 30-24 win over the Blue Raiders in game three. Down 20-22, Middle Tennessee watched Troy pick up key kills and also committed costly errors to allow Troy to win the game.
Game four was crucial for Middle Tennessee as they race to keep the pace in the Sun Belt East was on the line. The Blue Raiders cut down its errors and got down to business, registering a .306 attack percentage to take game four. Middle Tennessee never trailed in game four and with the game tied at 16, the Blue Raiders went on a 14-4 run to tie the match at two games.
Sophomore Ashley Adams was one of the deciding factors in the win in game five. The sophomore outside hitter notched four of her match-high 18 kills in the game to secure the win for the Blue Raiders. For the match, Adams had a .406 attack percentage and also recorded six defensive digs.
Senior Jessica Robinson recorded 12 kills in the match and also had seven block assists. Quanshell Scott also had 10 kills in the match. Sophomore Ashley Adams was just shy of her first double double as she had nine kills and nine block assists.
The win sets up a significant event for Head Coach Matt Peck. The third-year Head Coach has 599 wins in his career and is just one shy of 600.
Middle Tennessee will play its first Sun Belt Conference road match of the season on Friday when the Blue Raiders travel to Denver, Colorado to take on Denver. Match time is set for 8 p.m. Central.
