MURFREESBORO - Middle Tennessee senior linebacker J.K. Sabb (Augusta, Ga.) has been named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It marks the first time Sabb has won the award.
Sabb led the Blue Raiders to their first-ever Sun Belt Conference road shutout when Middle Tennessee downed North Texas, 35-0, on Saturday. The preseason all-conference selection recorded eight tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss, and forced a fumble in limiting the Mean Green to just 103 total yards of offense.
Sabb set the tone early for the Blue Raiders on the games opening drive when he leveled UNT quarterback Woody Wilson for a sack and forced a fumble that was picked up by safety Jonathan Harris. The Blue Raiders would take it in four plays later which proved to be the only points they would need.
Sabb enters the Louisville game on Friday leading the Blue Raiders in tackles with 35 and ranks fifth nationally in tackles for loss with 10.5.
