Win streak at six following 4-0 shutout at ASUOctober 8, 2006 · MT Media Relations
JONESBORO, Ark. - Middle Tennessee erupted for four first-half goals and made them stand in a 4-0 win at Arkansas State to run its current win streak to six and take its 13th in succession against Sun Belt Conference opponents here Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders (12-2, 6-0) completed the weekend sweep with a pair of shutouts to run the season total to six and received contributions from the entire team. Middle Tennessee's depth was once again a factor as four different Blue Raiders scored.
"It was a good weekend for our team and it was good to go on the road and continue to have success because that's what you have to do in order to win championships," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Aston Rhoden said. "It's always tough to go on the road and win in conference play and our players have answered those challenges well to this point."
The Blue Raiders came out in workmanlike fashion Sunday as the set sails toward a win that would move them third on the single-season list and just one shy of the school-record mark of 13 (2004, 2005). Kaley Forrest capped a tremendous weekend when she started the scoring with a nifty move and goal off a Kala Morgan assist in the fourth minute.
Kala Morgan netted her Sun Belt Conference leading 13th goal of the season in the 10th minute on an assist from Burgess. Morgan moved into a tie for second on the single-season goals list and sixth on the career list (20).
Jeanette Heltne's first career goal in the 38th minute staked the Blue Raiders to a comfortable 3-0 advantage and provided Rebecca Rodriguez with an assist to give her 83 career points, four shy of the career points lead at Middle Tennessee. Grogan capped the scoring with her 11th goal just before the half to help send the Blue Raiders on their way to the win.
Middle Tennessee will look to maintain a share of the Sun Belt Conference lead when it returns to league action next weekend at Blue Raider Field.
