Dillard fires career-low 71 at Pelican Preserve Invite

Blue Raiders tied for eighth after two rounds

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team shot a two-round 601 and is tied for eighth heading into Tuesday's final round at the GSU/Pelican Preserve Invite.

Middle Tennessee had an up-and-down day as it was in third, three strokes off the pace, after one round; however, the Blue Raiders shot a 305 in the second round to fall into a tie for eighth with Iowa.

"It was definitely a case of the good, the bad, and the ugly," said Middle Tennessee golf coach Rachel Short. "We had some very good moments and we had some struggles but we came out of it in pretty good shape. We put ourselves in position to do some positive things in the first round. We still have a chance to make a move (Tuesday)."

Junior Jamey Dillard's first tournament of the fall was a positive as she shot a career-best 71 in the opening round, which was the second best score of the round and tied for fourth best through two rounds. Dillard's 1-under in the first round was the only sub-par score for Middle Tennessee during Monday's rounds.

"I was so proud of Jamey, especially with it being her first tournament this fall," Short said. "She really stepped up and played well when we needed her most."

Dillard followed her 71 with an 80 in the second round and is tied for 29th with a 151. Maggie McGill was the most consistent Blue Raider player on a day when the windy conditions played tricks on the linksters. McGill is tied for 21st with a 150 after firing a 1-over 73 in the opening round and coming back with a 77 in the second.

Taryn Durham and Leigh Wilkins are tied for 34th with a 152, while Clara Leathers is tied for 53rd with a 155 heading into the final round.
