MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee volleyball (16-6, 7-2) fell to Sun Belt East rival Western Kentucky (19-7, 8-1 SBC) 3-2 (28, 30, 30-26, 30-32, 30-27, 10-15) Tuesday in front of a crowd of 1,022 in Alumni Memorial Gym.
The win gives Western Kentucky sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt East. With the loss, the Blue Raiders fall into a two-way tie for second place with Florida International.
The match was all about momentum and in the end the Lady Toppers came out on top because of it. After going into the locker room tied at one game a piece, Middle Tennessee looked to take game three leading 29-27. However, WKU battled back thanks to three Blue Raider attack errors and a ball handling error by setter Leslie Clark.
Middle Tennessee would come back to tie the match with a win in game four. Eerily, the score was again 29-27 but this time the Blue Raiders closed out the game thanks to an attack error by the Hilltopper's Jenna Gideon.
In game five the two clubs were tied at eight but a pair of kills by Megan Argabright and a final kill by Gideon gave WKU the match.
Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Adams led both clubs with 22 kills. She had just five errors on 55 attacks for a .333 attack percentage.
Senior Jessica Robinson had a big game with 16 kills and Quanshell Scott added 13. For the first time this season libero Alicia Lemau'u hit the 20-dig mark and freshman setter Leslie Clark recorded a career-high 60 assists.
Middle Tennessee will continue its homes-stand when the Blue Raiders host Louisiana-Monroe Friday. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Gym.
