Sumrell Reaches 4,000 Assists in Win

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Senior setter Megan Sumrell became the first Middle Tennessee (18-6, 9-2) player in school history to reach 4,000 assists in the Blue Raiders 3-0 (30-19, 30-15, 30-20) win over Louisiana-Lafayette (6-17, 3-9 SBC) Saturday in Alumni Memorial Gym. Sumrell now has 4,010 assists for her career.

The Blue Raiders recorded their second straight shutout with the sweep of Louisiana-Lafayette and the seventh overall in Sun Belt matches. In total, Middle Tennessee has blanked 15 of its 24 opponents.

Middle Tennessee hit a scorching .393 in the match and allowed the Ragin' Cajuns just .010. The Blue Raiders had 10 service aces with three coming from junior Victoria Monasterolo.

Junior middle blocker Quanshell Scott led the club with 10 kills hitting .533. Sophomore Ashley Adams added nine kills and also had one service ace.

Every Blue Raider player saw action in the match and it was freshman Savannah Pegg's kill in game three that closed out the game and the match for Middle Tennessee. Fellow freshman Ashley Mead saw quality time in the match, playing all three games and recording five kills.

Middle Tennessee closes out the home portion of its season when the club hosts Sun Belt West foe New Orleans on Sunday. Match time is set for 1 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Gym.
