Siljestrom Wins Two Singles, One Doubles

Senior wins three matches; Eighth singles win in last two years at ITA Southeast Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Andreas Siljestrom won a pair of singles matches and he and Marco Born teamed for a doubles victory, leading the Middle Tennessee contingent at the ITA Southeast Championships in Lexington, Ky.

Siljestrom won his first match of the day and struggled through the second, winning a pair of tiebreakers for his third singles victory in the tournament this year and eighth in the last two seasons. Born won his first singles match of the day but dropped his second to a ranked foe, as did Marc Rocafort.

In doubles late Friday, Middle Tennessee's Joao Paoliello and Marc Boiron dropped an 8-5 decision to Florida's 32nd-ranked Nestor Briceno and Greg Ouellette in the Round of 64, while teammates Morgan Richard and Rocafort lost 8-4 to Tennessee's Kaden Hensel and Bobby Cameron.

On Saturday morning Siljestrom and Born, ranked third nationally and seeded first in the tournament, won 8-5 over Tennessee's Davey Sandgren and Kiril Tcherveniachki. Siljestrom-Born will take on LSU's Danny Bryan and Jan Zelesny in the Round of 32 on Sunday.

In singles Saturday afternoon, Rocafort defeated Tennessee's Hensel, 6-3, 7-6 (3), in the Round of 64, and Born, ranked 88th nationally, won 6-3, 6-4, over Chattanooga's Badr Bouabdalleh. Siljestrom, ranked 32nd nationally and seeded sixth in the tourney field, was also victorious over Alabama's Billy Mertz, 6-3, 7-5.

But Saturday evening Born dropped a 2-6, 4-6, decision to Vanderbilt's 28th-ranked Ryan Preston, while Rocafort fell 4-6, 5-7, to LSU's 12th-ranked Ken Skupski.

Siljestrom found a way to win over Auburn's Milan Krnjetin, 7-6, 0-6, 7-6, despite rolling his ankle in the second set.

The ITA Southeast Championships serve as the qualifying event for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships set for November 2-5 in Columbus, Ohio. Teams in the field include Alabama, Auburn, Austin Peay, Bethune-Cookman, Birmingham Southern, Eastern Kentucky, Florida, Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic, Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Louisiana State, Memphis, Miami (FL), Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Morehead State, Murray State, North Florida, South Florida, Stetson, Tennessee, Chattanooga and Vanderbilt.
