LAFAYETTE, La. - Adam Vogelsberg earned All-Conference honors during his 2005-06 debut season with the Blue Raiders and Sun Belt coaches expect the senior guard to be a factor in the league race again this season.

Vogelsberg was selected to the preseason All-SBC second team in a vote of league coaches released Monday in conjuction with the conference's annual Media Days in Lafayette, La. The event, which includes the head coaches of the men's and women's teams from 13 member schools, is being held at the Cajun Dome, host of this year's conference tournament.

Vogelsberg was one of six guards listed among the league's top 10 players. Western Kentucky junior Courtney Lee was named the Preseason Player of the Year.

"I appreciate the recognition and people thinking I deserve their vote but it's like I said before, my main goal is that our team improves upon last season," Vogelsberg said. "We have a good group coming back and we have been working hard and we are all looking forward to getting the season started."

Vogelsberg will have to watch the new few days of practice from the sideline in anticipation of the season opener at Tennessee, Nov. 10, after sustaining an injury at the end of Saturday's Blue-White scrimmage. He had 18 points and nine rebounds in the scrimmage.

"He was injured and will be out seven-to-14 days and that will hurt our team," Davis said. "Adam is a very good player. He had 18 points in the scrimmage and led us in rebounding with nine and that shows his toughness. He's probably the least athletic guy on our team and he's out there leading us in rebounding. Adam is very deserving of the honor of being selected to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team. He has great toughness, a great skill, which is shooting the ball, he has a high basketball IQ, he's worked hard in the offseason and I expect him to have a great senior year."

Vogelsberg, who was Middle Tennessee's only selection to the preseason team, spent the offseason successfully rehabbing from a shoulder surgery conducted immediately following last season. It was an injury the gritty Vogelsberg played through all season.

"He had a severe shoulder injury last August (2005) when we were preparing to go to Canada," Davis said. "He just played with a huge tear in his shoulder the entire year and he made all-league. Adam is a great shooter. He has become better off the dribble and one thing he does extremely well is get to the line."

You couldn't tell Vogelsberg played injured last season. He led the Blue Raiders in scoring at 12.8 per game and he was one of the best in America at knocking down free throws. Vogelsberg also proved to be one of the most lethal 3-point specialists in the Sun Belt.

Vogelsberg led the Sun Belt in free-throw percentage and became the first player in Middle Tennessee history to shoot better than 90 percent for a single season with a 90.8 (108-of-119), which is also No. 1on the career list. He was just as dangerous from behind the arc, where he knocked down 68 3-pointers - third on the Middle Tennessee single-season list. His 41.7 percentage from 3-point range is third on the career list entering this season.
