Siljestrom-Born Head to National Indoors
Middle Tennessee tandem lost in finals of tournament last yearNovember 1, 2006 · MT Media Relations
Siljestrom-Born, ranked third nationally in doubles and seeded No. 3 in the tournament, take on Tulsa's Diego Camacho and Ross Cunningham not before 11:45 a.m. ET Thursday in the Round of 16.
The Middle Tennessee duo won its first national title last season at the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., sweeping five matches en route to the school's second national doubles championship.
The tandem reached the finals of this tournament last year as well, defeating Marc Spicijaric-Monte Tucker of Illinois, fifth-ranked Daniel Chu-Alex Slovic of Washington and fourth-rated Luke Shields-Thomas Schoeck of Boise State before falling in the finals to second-ranked Scott Green-Ross Wilson of Ohio State.
Siljestrom-Born got off to a rough start this fall, going 4-3 in their first three tournament, including 1-1 at the All-American Championships. The duo needed to win the ITA Southeast Championships doubles title two weeks ago in Lexington, Ky., to qualify for this week's event and did so with six consecutive victories over five SEC foes and one from Miami (FL).
The Ohio State University will be hosting the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships for the second straight year. This year's event will take place November 2-5 at the Racquet Club of Columbus and is the second of three national tournaments for singles and doubles during the 2006-07 collegiate tennis season.
These championships feature a 32-player singles field and 16-team doubles field for men and women, including: champions from Wilson/ITA Regional Championships held across the country during October, the ITA National Small College champions, the winners of the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's All-American Tennis Championships and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships presented by Fila and at-large and wild card selections made earlier this week by the ITA National Tournament Committee. Overall, more than 10,000 players from nearly 600 schools participate annually in the ITA Regional and National Intercollegiate Championships.
Results will be on itatennis.com, updated throughout each day. The ITA will try to live score some matches. RadioTennis.com and Ken Thomas will be broadcasting some of the matches on Saturday and Sunday. Big Ten legends and Grand Slam finalists Todd Martin (Northwestern) and MaliVai Washington (Michigan) are also among the past champions. Host Ohio State has had champions each of the last three years: Jeremy Wurtzman in 2003 (singles) and Scott Green and Ross Wilson the past two years in doubles.
