MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's third-ranked doubles team of Andreas Siljestrom and Marco Born moved one stop closer to a national championship with an 8-5 victory Thursday at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

The Middle Tennessee duo defeated Tulsa's Diego Camacho and Ross Cunningham, 8-5, in the Round of 16, advancing to play Lynn University's Julien Carsuzaa and Dennis Riegraf in Friday's quarterfinals. Carsuzaa-Riegraf upset Pepperdine's 15th-ranked Andre Begemann and Omar Altman, 9-7, on Thursday.

Siljestrom-Born will not play before 9:45 a.m. ET Friday in the quarterfinals.

"I thought we played OK. We had a chance to run away with it early, but the guys didn't really seize that opportunity the way I would have liked them to," head coach Dale Short said. "Certainly we didn't play our best, but it was good for a first match.

"We got an early break and sometimes players have a tendency to relax instead of continuing to attack. We had a chance to get a second break early and didn't and there was a bit of a let-down, but we came back and played better as the match progressed."

Short said he knew little of Friday's opponent, the ITA Small College champions.

"I don't know much about the team from Lynn, but they must be pretty good if they beat Pepperdine," Short said. "The big thing with our guys is not to play the opponents game, not play a finesse game, but play with power, especially indoors."

Siljestrom-Born reached the finals of this tournament last year, defeating Marc Spicijaric-Monte Tucker of Illinois, fifth-ranked Daniel Chu-Alex Slovic of Washington and fourth-rated Luke Shields-Thomas Schoeck of Boise State before falling in the finals to second-ranked Scott Green-Ross Wilson of Ohio State.

"We hope we can make amends for last year's final, but we have to get there first," Short added. "It's a little different this year because Andreas is not playing singles. Each day now you just play one match and it's a pro set, so there a lot of down time. I have to try and keep the guys focused on the task at hand."
