Doubles Team Wins Again
Siljestrom-Born move into semifinalsNovember 3, 2006 · MT Media Relations
Siljestrom-Born posted their ninth straight victory overall this fall dating to October 14 with an 8-3 triumph over Lynn's Julien Carsuzaa and Dennis Riegraf. The Blue Raider duo moves into Saturday's semifinals to face Michigan's fifth-ranked Brian Hung and Matko Maravic, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, at 10 a.m. ET.
"We pretty much dominated the match except for Andreas' serve. If we can get that straightened out, we should be pretty good," head coach Dale Short said. "We will be very much tested in the next match. [Michigan] is pretty solid and probably a level above the teams we played in the first two matches.
"It was an odd match because of the way [Lynn] played. Everyone in college tennis serves and volleys in doubles, but this team served and stayed back, both players," Short added. "We had to adapt to that but we did. We're returning well and that's a positive sign. If we can serve a little better, I think that will be a big boost for us."
Before last season, Middle Tennessee had a total of four doubles victories in four appearances in the National Indoors, and three of those were posted in 2002 when Oliver Foreman and Robert Gustafsson lost in the first round but had three straight victories to win the backdraw. Anthony DeLuise and Fred Niemeyer had the only other doubles triumph in school history at the National Indoors in 1997 before Siljestrom-Born won three straight in 2005 before falling in the finals.
