Three ink with Blue Raider volleyball
Peck gets two from Tennessee, along with California standoutNovember 9, 2006 · MT Media Relations
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee Head Volleyball Coach Matt Peck announced today the signing of three players to scholarship agreements. Middle blocker Stacy Oladinni, outside hitter Laura Brock, and outside hitter Hillary Hurley have all decided to join the Blue Raiders for the 2007 season.
Oladinni, a 6-0 foot local product from La Vergne High School, led the Wolverines to an undefeated district season and district and region titles while earning District 9-AAA Player of the Year and 9-AAA all-tournament honors in 2006. Also a letterwinner in basketball and track, Oladinni broke two school records in the high jump and discus throw during her career.
"Stacy has tremendous potential," said Peck. "She is very strong, quick, and athletic which is exactly what we look for in a middle blocker. With her and Laura Brock, we feel that we signed two of the top, if not the best, players in the state. Being able to touch over 10 foot puts her in a very elite group of players."
Brock, who is 5-9 hails from East Ridge High School in Chattanooga, owns 11 school records including the state record for kills with 2,425 which is also a career record. An excellent student, Brock is a three-time all-state performer and a two-time all-state tournament selection. The 2005 Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame Player of the Year, Brock was also crowned Best of Preps Player of the Year in 2005 and is a three-time Tennessee Sports Writers All-State selection.
"Laura is one of the best overall athletes we have ever signed," Peck added. "She is an amazing jumper with a great arm and is very highly skilled. Laura's attacking and ball-control skills are among the best I've seen. Laura comes from a coaching family, and she knows the game very well."
Hurley, who comes to Murfreesboro from Enterprise High School in Redding Calif., currently leads the entire state in kills with 706. The 6-2 Hurley is a four-time All-Northern Athletic League selection, a three-time All-Northern Section Team member, and a two-time Division III MVP. She was also voted Northern Section MVP for all divisions in 2005. The Northern Sections all-time kills leader, Hurley is also a standout basketball player where she has garnered All-Northern Athletic League and All-Northern Section honors three years in a row, along with being named the 2006 MVP of the Northern Section.
"Having Hillary on our team will be like having Ashley Adams on the left side because she is a pure terminator," said Peck. "She is agile, strong, and has an outstanding armswing and a very good jump. The fact she is leading the entire state of California in kills is a great indicator of her potential at this level."
