Face Belmont at home Monday night

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Home never has seemed so sweet for the Middle Tennessee men's basketball team.

The Blue Raiders (1-4) return to action Monday night looking to end a three-game losing streak when it plays host to rival Belmont (3-1) at Murphy Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The Belmont game marks the first of five straight home games as the Blue Raiders look to gain some momentum in front of the home fans.

"This is the best November and December homestand we have ever had," Middle Tennessee coach Kermit Davis said. "The only game we are thinking about is our game against Belmont because we need a win and we know we will have to play a complete game and a good game in order to have success against a very good Belmont team."

Middle Tennessee has struggled offensively without its leading scorer, Adam Vogelsberg, who is out until at least late December as he recovers from a broken bone in his right foot sustained prior to the start of the season. Senior forward Kyle Young has been a strong suit for the Blue Raiders in the early going.

Young is averaging 9.4 points and four rebounds per game, while shooting a Sun Belt Conference best 65 percent (20-of-31) from the field. Young tied a Paradise Jam record for field goal percentage when he shot 73 percent (16-of-22) in the team's three games during the tournament.

Sophomore point guard Kevin Kanaskie is the team's leading scorer at 11.8 points per game, and he's also averaging five assists per contests, which ranks fifth in the Sun Belt in the early going.

The Blue Raiders are 22-4 at home against non-conference opponents under Davis and they are 12-2 against in-state opponents on the home court so Middle Tennessee is hoping a return to the venue where it has played so well under its fifth-year coach will help ignite a winning streak and get the squad moving in a positive direction.
