Lagat Places Fifth at Old Timers Classic

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's Geoffrey Lagat placed fifth and was the third collegian to finish the five-mile course at Kereiakas Park at the 22nd Annual WKU Old Timers Classic in Bowling Green, Ky., Saturday morning.

Lagat was the third collegian to complete the course, crossing the finish line in 25:30.12. Freshman David Hughes again ran well for the Blue Raiders, placing 22nd in 26:52.78. Freshman Zack Wood came in 44th (29:30.33), while freshman Tony Carufe was 50th (30:10.69). Sophomore Carlos Gonzales placed 53rd (31:01.70), and junior Tim Hicks was 56th (32:49.79).

Freshman Kim Alsobrook led the Lady Raiders for the third straight week, placing 32nd in a time of 27:36.90 on the 6K course. Redshirt freshman Lauren Milbourn came in 35th (28:41.55), while freshman Jo-Marie Thaggard was 37th (29:31.54). Junior Erin Russell finished 38th (39:36.43), with junior Kishara George 39th (33:18.92) and freshman Contrena Brown 40th (38:27.07). Sophomore Kerry Barrow (41st, 38:28.95), freshman Kristin Marcus (42nd, 46:09.81) and freshman Tiffany Owens (43rd, 46:11.09) rounded out the Lady Raiders contingent.

The Blue Raiders and Lady Raiders each got a look at the course where the Sun Belt Championships will take place November 1. Both squads will compete in the Louisville Invitational in Louisville, Ky., in two weeks.
