Tigers third Top 25 opponent this seasonDecember 22, 2006 · MT Media Relations
The Blue Raiders (4-6) will be playing their third Top 25 opponent this season having already faced then No. 24 Tennessee in the season opener, and they also played No. 10 Alabama in the Paradise Jam Tournament.
Three Blue Raiders have ties to the Bluff City as sophomore Nigel Johnson and freshman Desmond Yates return to west Tennessee for the first time as collegians, while assistant coach Thomas Johnson spent the previous four years at Wooddale High School in Memphis.
Nigel Johnson played at Wooddale and helped lead the team to three straight 20-win seasons, while Yates played at nearby Fayette-Ware High School in Somerville. Both players are expected to have a large contingent of family and friends attend Saturday's game.
Saturday's game is the second of a three-year deal between Middle Tennessee and Memphis with the Tigers slated to play the Blue Raiders in Nashville next season.
