Blue Raiders take on arch-rival Lady 'Toppers Wednesday night at Murphy Center

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee women's basketball returns to the hardwood Wednesday, hosting arch-rival Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. at Murphy Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, Comcast Channel 27 in the Midstate.

The Blue Raiders (9-3, 2-0) have won six straight and are 5-0 in the month of December, including victories over then eighth-ranked Georgia and at home versus Old Dominion. Middle Tennessee is ranked 26th nationally in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls released on Tuesday.

Senior Chrissy Givens and junior Amber Holt average 40.5 points per game combined this season and have four double-doubles between them.

Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky have met 16 times since the Blue Raiders joined the Sun Belt, with both teams claiming eight wins apiece in the series. The average score of the 16 games is Middle Tennessee 72.6 (1,162 pts), Western Kentucky 70.1 (1,121 pts).

The Blue Raiders have won four of the last five meetings and 5-of-7 in the series and won both contests last season at Murphy Center, including the conference tournament championship game. Middle Tennessee is 5-2 at home in the series and has won three straight overall at Murphy Center over the Lady 'Toppers.

In the last two years Chrissy Givens has averaged 17.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest against WKU and scored 20-plus points in all three meetings last season. Krystle Horton has scored double figures in seven of nine career outings against WKU, averaging 12.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest.

The contest is the third in a five-game homestand for Middle Tennessee after playing 6-of-8 on the road. The Blue Raiders host North Dakota State on January 2 and Troy on January 6 before hitting the road again.

Fans who purchased tickets to the Motor City Bowl may purchase 2-for-1 tickets to either or both the men's (2 for $10) and women's (2 for $7) basketball games against Western Kentucky with proof of purchase. Show your ticket stub or receipt at the Middle Tennessee Ticket Office to receive the discounted tickets. The men host Western Kentucky on Thursday, December 28 at 7 p.m.
