Seniors Set Pace in Win

October 5, 2003 · MT Media Relations
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Christina Mascaro scored once and handed out two assists and fellow senior Emily Carter tallied a pair of goals, as Middle Tennessee scored three times in the opening 10 minutes and cruised to a 4-0 victory over Austin Peay Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders scored three times in a three-minute span in the first 10 minutes to take control of the match early and never looked back, ending a seven-match road losing streak in the process and winning the final road non-conference tilt of the season. Mascaro assisted on the first two goals, both to Carter, then added the third goal in the stretch for her second tally of the year.

Middle Tennessee got on the board in the eighth minute when Mascaro's corner kick found Carter in the box, and the Evansville, Ind., senior beat APSU keeper Sarah Broadbent for a 1-0 Blue Raider lead.

Just over a minute later Rachel Holmes crossed back post and Mascaro ran down the long ball, crossed low into the box and Carter chipped past Broadbent again for her fourth goal of the season.

In the 11th minute Laura Miguez flicked a pass to Mascaro wide and the Osteen, Fla., native beat Broadbent low and right for a 3-0 Blue Raider advantage.

Middle Tennessee controlled the action for the remainder of the half and finally put another score on the board in the final minute, as Beth Wade played a long ball forward to Rebecca Rodriguez, who controlled the ball with a quick touch and beat one defender for the score, her sixth of the season.

The Blue Raiders controlled play for much of the second half, as well, as all 25 players saw action in the match, but the squad was unable to net another score.

Sophomore Danielle Perreault made one save in tallying her fourth shutout of the year and second in a row, picking up her sixth victory of the season.

The Blue Raiders continue road action with a pair of Sun Belt matches next weekend, taking on Arkansas-Little Rock Friday and Arkansas State Sunday. Middle Tennessee returns home October 17 against North Texas.
