(following afternoon practice on Aug. 6)
KELLY ON GROZA WATCH LIST:It was announced today by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission that Middle Tennessee placekicker Brian Kelly is one of 30 preliminary candidates for the 10th annual Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award. Kelly, out of Woodstock, GA, made 11 of 13 field goals as a freshman and has been voted the Sun Belt Conference's preseason all-league team. The kickers on the Lou Groza Award Watch List were chosen based on statistics from the 2000 season and on preseason expectations. The 20 semifinalists for the award will be announced in late October. The awards website, www.palmbeachsports.com/groza, will feature a special interactive online voting section. This feature, which will be operational soon, allows anyone to vote for who they believe will win the award. The online voting, however, is purely for fun. Kelly is one of just five sophomores on the list.
