Men's Tennis Set for Region III Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Eight Middle Tennessee men's tennis players begin play in the ITA Region III Championships starting Thursday at The Racquet Club in Memphis, Tenn., with three players taking part in qualifying and five more in the main draw singles.

The trio of Blue Raiders in qualifying - juniors Anant Sitaram and Greg Pollack and sophomore Brandon Allan - begin play Thursday morning and must win twice to earn a spot in the main draw that starts Friday.

Sitaram takes on Chris Rea of Southern Miss at 9:30 a.m., while Pollack plays Dylan Mezey, also of Southern Miss, at 9:30 a.m., and Allan meets Kentucky's Matt Allinder at 11:15 a.m. Second-round matches in qualifying are scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

In main draw singles, freshman Kai Schledorn takes on Jacksonville State's Ruben Herrera at 8:15 a.m. Friday, while freshman Andreas Siljestrom meets a qualifier, also at 8:15 a.m.

Senior Trevor Short plays Central Florida's Ener Gursoy at 9:45 a.m., while junior Rishan Kuruppu also meets a qualifier at 8:15 a.m. Senior Kirk Jackson receives a bye as the No. 25 seed in the field and will meet the winner of David Goulet (Tulane) and Trey Johnson (Florida) at 2:45 p.m. Friday.

Eighteen ranked players dot the main draw, including Georgia's sceond-ranked Bo Hodge and Kentucky's ninth-rated Jesse Witten.

Doubles draws will be annoounced late Thursday. Tournament results may be accessed at tennisinformation.com.
