MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee won the doubles point and three of the first four completed singles outings, as the 43rd-ranked Blue Raiders defeated 52nd-ranked Virginia Tech, 5-2, in men's tennis action Saturday at the Racquet Club of Murfreesboro.

The Blue Raiders won their third consecutive outing and second over a ranked foe.

Middle Tennessee won two doubles outings, with the No. 3 pairing of Joao Paoliello and Marc Boiron coming through in the clutch once again.

Hokies Pedro Graber and Nicolas Delgado defeated Andreas Siljestrom and Morgan Richard, 8-2, at No. 2, but Middle Tennessee's Marco Born and Marc Rocafort won 8-6 at No. 1 over Arvid Puranen and Brandon Corace. Paoliello-Boiron gave the Blue Raiders the first point of the match with an 8-6 triumph over Albert Larregola and Youan Re.

In singles Middle Tennessee split the first set in the first four matches but came through with three victories to post the team victory.

Born defeated 87th-ranked Delagdo, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2, but Larregola, ranked 70th, won 6-4, 6-4, over Rocafort at No. 3. Siljestrom, ranked 41st, came through with a 6-7 (0), 6-3, 6-3, triumph against 67th-ranked Puranen at No. 1 before Richard outlasted Re at No. 4, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, at No. 4 for the team win.

Paoliello defeated Corace, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 5, and Virginia Tech's Graber won 6-1, 3-0, retired, against Boiron at No. 6.

The Blue Raiders host Florida Atlantic Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Racquet Club to end their six-match homestand to begin the season.
