MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee volleyball (8-14, 1-5 Sun Belt) dropped a nail-biter 3-2 (30-28, 21-30, 27-30, 30-28, 10-15) against Denver (14-7, 4-2 Sun Belt) Friday in Alumni Memorial Gym.
It was a spirited comeback for the Lady Raiders as after dropping games two and three Middle Tennessee roared back to take game four and push the match to a game five. With the score tied 28 all in the fourth game, junior outside hitter KeKe Deckard recorded back-to-back kills to give the Lady Raiders the win.
In game five, Middle Tennessee took the first two points on a kill by Evi Gargalianos and a service ace by freshman Theresa Slowik. Denver came back to tie the game 2-2 and then 4-4 and traded points until the game was tied again 6-6. Denver took the lead back on a kill by Olympia Hughes and the Pioneers never looked back taking the game and the match.
Senior Karisse Baker led all scorers with 23 kills and junior KeKe Deckard followed close behind with 22. Freshman setter had 37 assists and also recorded 11 digs.
Middle Tennessee returns to action on Sunday when the team hosts New Mexico State at noon in Alumni Memorial Gym.
