Blue Raiders Fall, 7-0, to UVA

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Virginia won all three doubles matches and all six singles outings, as the 27th-ranked Cavaliers defeated Middle Tennessee, 7-0, in women's tennis action Friday at the Racquet Club of Murfreesboro.

In doubles, the Cavaliers won the first two matches quickly and eventually took the third as well to claim the first point of the match.

Maggie Yahner and Brintney Larson defeated Pooja Kommireddi and Stephanie Parkison, 8-3, at No. 3, before Lara Alexander and Caroline Hammond broke serve in the final game of an 8-2 triumph over Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and Marlene Chemin at No. 2. Kristen McVitty and Jennifer Stevens outlasted Blue Raiders Hala Sufi and Claudia Szabo, 8-5, at No. 1.

In singles UVA won five of the six matches in straight sets and the other in a supertiebreaker.

Stevens defeated Parkison, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3 before Yahner won 6-1, 6-3, over Elvira Yusupova at No. 4. McVitty won the deciding point at No. 2, 6-2, 7-5, over Siljestrom.

Larson defeated 47th-ranked Sufi in a supertiebreaker at No. 1, 3-6, 7-5, 10-8, before Lindsey Pereira won 6-3, 6-3, over Kommireddi at No. 5 and Hammond took care of Szabo, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6.

Middle Tennessee takes on 71st-ranked Louisville Sunday at 1 p.m. CT at the Bass-Rudd Tennis center in Louisville, Ky.
