Kruse and Venter Advance to Quarterfinal Doubles

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Middle Tennessee's number three-seeded Manon Kruse and Carien Venter advanced to the quarterfinals of the Omni Hotels ITA Southeast Regional with two wins on Friday on the Wake Forest campus.

Kruse and Venter received a bye in the first round and then defeated Ellen Rogers and Wendy Rohr of Wofford 8-2. The 30th ranked duo then beat Michelle Spies and Leslie Stewart of Louisville 8-3 and will face No. 6th seeded Julia Smith and Tony Zawacki of Duke at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The doubles team of Jennifer Klaschka and Laura McNamara picked up a win over Danelle Moita and Ana P. Novera of Winthrop 8-4. The team then lost to top seeded Kendall Cline and Aniela Majzis of UNC-Chapel Hill 8-5.

In singles play, Kruse swept North Carolina A&T's Karissa Johnson easily 6-0, 6-0 and will face Campbell's Pascale Veraverbeke at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. In other singles action, Klaschka lost 6-4, 7-5 to Dukes Kristin Cargill and Venter fellt o North Carolina A&T's Krinstin Lam 6-0, 7-6.

At the June Stewart Invitational on the Vanderbilt campus, freshman Jacqui Williams and junior Emily Vest picked up wins in singles. Williams defeated Ole Miss' Claire Conerly 6-2, 6-2 and Vest defeated Claire Westerman of Vanderbilt 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. Junior Ana Maria Cibils lost to Vanderbilt's Helene Stephens 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action Williams and Cibils lost to Vanderbilt 8-1 and then again 8-0.
