Kruse and Venter Reach Semifinals of Southeast Regional

WINSTON SALEM, S.C. - Middle Tennessee women's tennis players Manon Kruse and Carien Venter advanced to the semi-finals of the Omni Hotels ITA Southeast Regional on Saturday with key wins on the Wake Forest campus.

Kruse, seeded No. 7 and ranked No. 37 in the ITA, has torched the tournament in her first three matches only allowing her opponents to win a total of four games. She defeated Campbell's Pascale Veraverbeke 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of the morning and then beat No. 10 seeded Saras Arasu 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals on Sunday. Kruse will face Alex Hirsch of Wake Forest at 8 a.m. Sunday.

In doubles play, Kruse and Venter won by default over Duke's Julia Smith and Tory Zawacki, seeded 10th, because the duo had to withdraw due to injury. Kruse and Venter will face No. 2 seeded Julie Coin and Maria Brito of Clemson on Sunday.

At the June Stewart Invitational on the Vanderbilt campus, junior Ana Maria Cibils lost to Maria Nieto 6-2, 6-1 and defeated Ole Miss' Emily Ladyman 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Jacqui Williams lost to Vanderbilt's Westerman 6-3, 6-1.
